October Read:"Good Omens". It's a gateway to fantasy.
Let's meet at 19:00 on 24th, Monday at Yuntai book house in World trade shopping center. We'll discuss the book or things about reading. If you wanna join in, please add my wechat jennytang7892. We have a wechat reading group too. If you like it, you're welcome to join the group.

"Good Omens” was written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett in 1990. Obviously it was a fantasy fiction since both writers were well known for their fantasy works. In 2003, “Good Omens” was listed the number 68 for BBC’s survery “the Big Read”. The book is about the birth of Satan’s son and the coming of the end times.
Because of “The ocean at the End of Lane” written by Neil Gaiman, I had to read “ Good Omens” since I got no feeling about “The Ocean…" and totally confused after I finished it. So one reader in Fusion Reading recommended me a few fantasy books and said I would become interested in fantasy fiction after reading those books. He suggested i start with “Good Omens”. It turned out that i really enjoyed this book and it’s the funniest satire i’ve ever read.
In truth, "Good Omens" is the perfect gateway to fantasy. For me, I became interested in different genres of fiction. I admit that i made a wrong assumption about fantasy books. I thought it was all about dragons, phoenix, battles and wizards, all nonsense, nothing about the real world. Terry and Nail's well-written story actually told me the real world around me besides a lot of good laughs. I think i should start to read Terry's "Discworld" series if I have time.
There are a lot of marvellous quotes in the book. I just cant help quoting some as the following.
“DON'T THINK OF IT AS DYING, said Death. JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.”
"It may help to understand human affairs to be clear that most of the great triumphs and tragedies of history are caused, not by people being fundamentally good or fundamentally bad, but by people being fundamentally people.”
